President Donald Trump has confirmed the tragic death of National Guard member Sarah Beckstrom, who was fatally wounded in what he described as a terror attack in Washington D.C. The 20-year-old from West Virginia was on duty near the White House on Wednesday night when the ambush occurred.

Speaking to reporters on Thursday afternoon, President Trump delivered the sombre news, stating he had been informed just seconds before addressing the press. He paid tribute to Beckstrom, calling her a 'highly respected, young, magnificent person' and 'outstanding in every way'.
'She's no longer with us,' the President said. 'She's looking down on us right now. Her parents are with her. It's just happened. She was savagely attacked, she's dead.' He added that the loss was 'just horrible,' emphasising that Beckstrom was an incredible person.
Family's Heartbreaking Vigil
The confirmation followed a devastating revelation from Beckstrom's father, Gary, who had earlier spoken from her bedside. He told The New York Times that his daughter had a mortal wound and that a recovery was not possible. 'I'm holding her hand right now,' he had stated, as the family endured an agonising vigil.
The attack also injured fellow West Virginia National Guard member Andrew Wolfe. The incident is now being investigated as a terror attack, with more details expected to emerge as this is a developing news story.
