Man Appears in Court Over Alleged Military Impersonation
A 64-year-old man has been charged by North Wales Police after allegedly attending a Remembrance Sunday service in Llandudno while wearing the uniform of a high-ranking naval officer without permission.
Jonathan Carley, from Harlech in Gwynedd, was spotted during the wreath-laying ceremony in Llandudno, Conwy, on Sunday 9 November. He has been formally charged with unlawfully wearing uniform bearing the mark of His Majesty's Forces.
Swift Police Response to Public Concern
North Wales Police confirmed they made an arrest after receiving reports about a man wearing what appeared to be the uniform and medals of a senior navy officer. The incident occurred during the solemn Remembrance Sunday commemorations, drawing significant public attention and concern.
Ch Insp Trystan Bevan stated: "We understand that this incident has caused significant public concern, particularly given its occurrence on Remembrance Sunday." He emphasised that officers had responded swiftly to make an arrest and proceed with charges following the reports made to the police force.
Court Proceedings and Public Appeal
Carley is scheduled to appear at Caernarfon Magistrates Court on Thursday 11 December to face the single charge relating to the unauthorized wearing of military attire.
Police have issued an appeal to the public, urging people to avoid online speculation and refrain from sharing content that could potentially compromise the forthcoming court proceedings. The unusual case has highlighted the sensitivity surrounding military representation during remembrance events.
