Lance Corporal James Freeman, a 28-year-old British soldier, has been officially named as the serviceman who tragically lost his life during a training accident in Iraq. He was a proud member of the Royal Anglian Regiment, having enlisted in the British Army in June 2016.

Colonel James WHM Bishop, the commander of Operation Shader in Iraq, paid heartfelt tribute to the fallen soldier. He described Lance Corporal Freeman as a 'larger than life' character and a 'magnetically charming' leader who inspired those around him. Colonel Bishop emphasised that his absence leaves a 'profound, irreplaceable void' within the regiment and the wider military community.
