Neighbours angry as man builds huge shed without permission

A homeowner in Llangollen has built a large timber shed across the width of his back garden without planning permission, prompting complaints from neighbours.

Adam Taylor, from Llangollen, previously had plans for the shed refused, a decision that was later dismissed on appeal by inspectors at Planning and Environment Decisions Wales (PEDW). Despite this, the shed has now been erected, and Mr Taylor has submitted a retrospective application to retain the outbuilding and create new access steps to his home at Trem y Creigiau.

Neighbours raise concerns

Several neighbours have complained about the structure. Some highlighted "overlooking concerns and harm to residential amenity," while others said it was an overdevelopment of the garden area and would result in a "cramped" development. Additional complaints included worries about the impact on neighbouring homes.

Property details and proposed changes

The two-storey detached redbrick property is described as a mock Tudor front gable set back from the cul-de-sac, with a driveway and parking to the front, as well as a double garage. As part of the application, Mr Taylor has agreed to the removal of a raised patio area that was deemed to infringe on neighbours' privacy.

Council recommendation

The council's planning officers are recommending the plans are approved, with the application being considered acceptable. The plans will be discussed at Denbighshire County Council's planning committee meeting at the authority's Ruthin County Hall HQ on Wednesday, November 4.
