Dion Dublin Jokes 'Let Me Out' Over Prison Bar Find

BBC presenter Dion Dublin was left speechless during a recent episode of Homes Under the Hammer after discovering an unusual feature in a Merseyside property. The star, who lives just 20 minutes away in Wirral, was inspecting a two-bedroom mid-terraced house in Birkenhead when he came across wooden bars dividing the living space and kitchen.

Strange Discovery in Birkenhead

The property, advertised for auction at £40,000, had remained untouched for years. As Dublin explored the lounge and moved into the kitchen, he was immediately taken aback by the bars. "Well this is rather strange isn't it," he remarked. "I haven't seen this before. It's like prison bars." He grabbed the bars and joked, "Let me out!"

Dublin expressed delight at visiting a property so near to his home, telling viewers: "Well I've got to say, I do love these ones. We're in Birkenhead and I only live about 20 mins away. So thank you very much Homes Under the Hammer for giving me this today."

Property Sold for £152,500 After Renovation

After a full tour, Dublin revealed the house had been purchased at auction by Ben, a Liverpool man serving as a Sergeant in the armed forces. Ben bought the property for £75,000, aiming to create a "side hustle" to generate income for his family alongside his military career. He planned a renovation budget of £30,000 to £40,000 and initially targeted a 12 to 15 week timeline, which eventually stretched to five months.

Ultimately, Ben sold the Wirral home for an impressive £152,500 after completing a full renovation, eliminating leaks, mould, and damp. He secured a profit of £27,500, which he plans to reinvest in another property. Ben, currently based in Camberley, Surrey, told Dublin: "My wife is down in Camberley where I'm currently based in the military. I'm in the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst at the minute training the next generation of officers."

Ben also revealed that his two-year-old son is developing a mixed accent, saying: "My little boy is only two and he's starting to get some crazy twangs come in, a little bit of Scouse and a little bit of Cockney."
