Binman Reveals Simple Trick to Get Rubbish Collected After Forgetting
Binman Tips: How to Get Rubbish Collected After Forgetting

A binman has offered a straightforward solution for residents who forget to put their bins out on collection day. Refuse collector Ashley, 37, says that many people make the mistake of simply informing the crew of their oversight, but this rarely results in the bin being emptied.

The Right Way to Handle a Missed Bin

Ashley explains: "If you see the bin man on the road still or just around the corner, and you're like, 'oh no, I forgot my bin' - what you don't do is walk up to him and tell him that you've got to bring your bin out late because nothing can happen."

Instead, he advises: "But this is the solution, okay? If you bring the bin with you to the bin men and go 'sorry, my fault completely, forgot to put my bin out on time, can you empty it?' They're more likely to say yes if you have the bin with you. Otherwise you're gonna have to go back and get your bin and then bring it all the way back again."

Ashley emphasises the importance of physically bringing the bin to the collection vehicle: "So if you realise you forgot to put your bin out, while you're bringing it out carry on going to the dustcart, and then you're more than likely to get your bin collected."

Public Reaction

The advice has sparked comments from many who have shared their own experiences. Rose said: "That's why I remind myself the day before. I take it out the night before." Another user wrote: "One man drove the bin to us two weeks ago since he forgot to put it out." Luna added: "Imagine me running down the street with my full heavy bin!!!" A different viewer noted: "Put bin out night before simple." Emma recalled: "So many times when I was younger I've ran down street with my bins. They've always been good and emptied it."
