Salt Beats Baking Soda and Vinegar for White Clothes Stains
Salt: The Surprising Stain Remover for White Clothes

Bosch, the home appliances company, has shared a simple and cost-effective method for removing tough stains from white clothing using a common kitchen ingredient: salt. According to Bosch, salt is surprisingly effective, particularly against red wine stains.

How to Use Salt for Stain Removal

The method involves soaking the stained white garment in cold water with added salt. Bosch recommends leaving the garment to soak for four hours, then adding detergent and washing as usual. This technique works well for fresh red wine stains as well.

  • Never use chlorinated bleach on yellow stains, as it can worsen them.
  • Avoid rubbing stains with a dark-coloured cloth, as the dye may transfer to the white fabric.
  • Do not mix oil and water. For oil-based stains, use a dry paper towel instead of water.
  • Refrain from ironing or machine drying a stained item, as heat sets the stain.
  • Never mix ammonia and bleach, as this produces toxic fumes.
  • Do not use hot water on a stain if you are unsure of its cause; if it is protein-based, heat will make it worse.
