Mum-of-Two Sheds 12kg in Four Months After Health Wake-Up Call
Mum-of-Two Sheds 12kg in Four Months After Health Realisation

A mother of two from Australia has shared how she lost 12 kilograms in just four months after a series of confronting realisations about her health, habits, and mindset. Felicity Morgan, now residing in Bali, explained that the weight gain followed a particularly challenging period in her life, marked by multiple miscarriages and rounds of IVF.

During that time, unhealthy behaviours quietly began to resurface. The 35-year-old is now opening up about the exact approach she used to transform her body. From overhauling her diet and training routine to having a brutally honest conversation that forced her to take accountability, Felicity believes this is the factor most people overlook when it comes to lasting weight loss.

For her, the decision to lose weight did not come from a single dramatic moment but rather a buildup of small, uncomfortable realisations that became increasingly difficult to ignore. She recalled moments when she would put on a dress she loved, only to find it no longer fit, or wear swimwear in which she used to feel confident but no longer did.

These physical changes were compounded by a deeper shift in how she felt day to day. Felicity described that time as one of the hardest periods of her life. Following multiple miscarriages and ongoing IVF treatment, she found herself leaning into habits that, while understandable at the time, ultimately contributed to her weight gain. She noted that during challenging moments, unhealthy behaviours can creep back in, and often no one challenges you because they see you are going through a hard time.

In her case, this meant less consistency with exercise, more flexibility with food, and a gradual shift away from the routines that had once kept her feeling strong and in control. By the time she reached 66 kilograms, she knew something needed to change, not because of a number on the scale but because she no longer felt like herself.

The turning point came in a moment of deliberate honesty. Wanting clarity, she asked her husband a question many would avoid: whether she had put on weight. When he eventually admitted that her body had changed, it provided the wake-up call she needed. She explained that she needed a mirror in that moment to be awakened to her poor habits and the reality that her body had changed.

From there, her focus shifted beyond simply losing weight to something more intentional. She decided she wanted to be in the best shape of her life before turning 40, and she now says her body is in the best shape it has ever been at age 35. With that mindset, Felicity committed to weight training multiple times a week, working with a coach to ensure intensity and accountability, while also prioritising daily movement, including hitting 10,000 steps.

One of the most significant shifts came through her approach to food. She used to follow a keto diet, heavily focused on high-fat foods like meat, avocado, Greek yoghurt, cheese, and coconut oil. That approach came with a long-held belief system around carbohydrates, which she has since completely abandoned. She now eats about 140 grams of protein per day along with a lot of carbohydrates.

A typical breakfast for Felicity now includes two pieces of toast, two eggs, chicken, and around 200 grams of mango. This combination has transformed not only her physique but also how she feels day to day. For lunch, she has a chicken or beef stir fry, and for dinner, she usually has a roast with vegetables and lamb or roast chicken. She no longer experiences brain fog and has plenty of energy to train.

Rather than cutting out entire food groups, Felicity now focuses on balance, ensuring she eats enough protein, carbohydrates, and fats to feel satisfied, energised, and consistent long-term. She no longer believes that eating healthy is the best strategy, as one can absolutely overeat on good foods. She wishes she had been aware of that earlier, as she probably would have lost the weight a year ago if she had been honest with herself about overeating.

Alongside these broader shifts, smaller practical habits also played a role in her transformation. No longer having coffee on an empty stomach was a huge game changer, as it helped reduce feelings of anxiety and improve overall energy levels. She also became more mindful when eating, avoiding distractions like phones or television so she could better recognise when she was full.

Despite seeing results relatively quickly, the process was not without challenges. One of the most difficult phases came once she began to see progress. She noticed a part of her wanted to start coasting, which is where people self-sabotage. When things start getting good, we allow ourselves to bring in bad behaviour again.

Now, having reached what she describes as the best shape of her life, Felicity has shifted her focus to sustainability. She feels super satiated and describes her approach as very balanced, one she can maintain for the rest of her life.
