A 22-year-old mother from Ardrossan, North Ayrshire, has issued a warning about the risks of lip fillers after a procedure left her with lumpy, swollen 'sausage lips' that caused her to vomit from pain.
Chloe McMahon, a care assistant, had 1ml of filler injected into her lips in December 2018 as a £300 Christmas present from her boyfriend. Within an hour, her lips swelled to triple their size, leaving her unable to eat or drink. The pain was so severe that she cried and was sick.
When she contacted the practitioner, she was reportedly told the swelling was normal and advised to ice her lips. Five months later, her lips remained lumpy and uneven. She was refused a refund, and a second treatment at the same salon free of charge caused another adverse reaction.
McMahon, who had been self-conscious about not having fuller lips like others her age, now regrets the procedure and has vowed never to have fillers again. She said: 'It was absolutely hellish. My lips completely blew up, they were like sausages.'
She hopes her story will serve as a cautionary tale for others considering cosmetic treatments.
