Jamie Oliver's 2-Stone Weight Loss: Diet Secrets Revealed

Jamie Oliver, the celebrated television chef who turns 50 today (May 27), has undergone a remarkable weight loss transformation in recent years, shedding two stone. The popular TV personality has shared the dietary changes and key foods that he credits with overhauling his health.

How Jamie Oliver Lost Two Stone

Jamie admitted that he made slight adjustments to his diet, but more crucially, he cut back on one particular food group: meat. "I pushed meat down, pushed veggie up, got more sleep and more movement," he explained during an interview with Radio Times. Beyond reducing his meat consumption, the chef concentrated on eating more healthily. Once he began opting for nutritious foods and preparing healthier meals, he witnessed an immediate difference, reports the Express.

"I lost 12 kilos quite quickly and I didn't do it through not eating. I ate a lot, more than I was used to," Jamie explained. His key secret, however, was swapping generous portions of meat for greater quantities of vegetables.

Go-To Snack: Nuts

Jamie also revealed his go-to snack for maintaining his figure: nuts. "They make you half as likely to have a heart attack. Feed them to your kids as well," he recommended. According to the NHS, nuts are high in fibre, and unsalted nuts make a good snack. However, they do still contain high levels of fat, so they should be eaten in moderation. The NHS recommends consuming a small handful (approximately 30g) of unsalted nuts daily as part of a balanced diet, opting for nuts that are unsalted or unroasted without added sugar or a honey coating.

Lifestyle Overhaul

Jamie also opted to overhaul other aspects of his lifestyle, including reducing his alcohol intake and prioritising better sleep. "Your average Brit drinks booze. I'm not telling you what to do, but my rhythm now is only to drink at the weekend. It's about a consciousness and knowing you're doing something and being more mindful," he said.

Seaweed: The Secret Accelerator

Jamie also revealed one particular food which accelerated his weight loss journey: seaweed. "I thought seaweed was hippy, globetrotting stuff but our ancestors ate seaweed. It has got a load of iodine and is the most nutritious vegetable in the world," he explained.

Motivation and Health Journey

The celebrity chef made the decision to shed the pounds after recognising just how unhealthy his lifestyle had become. "I realised I hadn't spent much time looking after myself. I went back to school and started studying nutrition, started travelling to parts of the world to where people live the longest lives and started looking at their lifestyles. That was the journey and it's been amazing," he explained on Loose Women.

This follows as the TV personality has been battling back issues for four years, after suffering three slipped discs. In an interview with The Times in 2024, he admitted: "I've had four years of three slipped discs. It's about managing it - my job doesn't allow me not to work... I've had weeks where I've been able to stand for only 40 seconds at a time."
