Ferne McCann: 'I felt big on red carpet' as weight loss jab trend sparks body image fears
Ferne McCann on 'worrying' weight loss jab trend and body image

Reality TV star Ferne McCann has voiced serious concerns about a "worrying trend" she believes is reversing the progress of the body positivity movement, linking it directly to the soaring popularity of weight loss injections.

'I actually felt big': A red carpet revelation

In an exclusive interview, the 35-year-old mother of two revealed that a recent glamorous event unexpectedly shook her hard-won self-confidence. "I noticed so many thin women walking down the red carpet alongside me and I’m not joking, I actually felt ‘big’", McCann confessed. She explained that this experience prompted her to question her own body in a way she hadn't for years, marking a significant personal setback.

The former The Only Way Is Essex star observed a clear shift back towards extreme thinness, reminiscent of the 'heroin chic' aesthetic of the 1990s. "There’s such a rise in people striving to be super skinny again. It feels like a step back", she stated, expressing particular concern as a mother to two young daughters, Sunday, eight, and Finty, two.

The 'thinjection' culture versus body positivity

While McCann is careful to acknowledge that weight loss jabs can be "transformative" and "very beneficial" for those with genuine medical needs, she worries about their widespread use creating a new pressure to conform. "This new culture of ‘thinjections’ does put pressure on people to conform to being ‘thin’", she insisted.

She described seeing women in the public eye who once had "boobs and a bum and just really healthy, gorgeous, female bodies" who have now "shrunk down to nothing". McCann lamented that this trend is moving society further away from the freedom to celebrate all body shapes and sizes. "What happened to that body positivity movement?" she asked pointedly.

Health, family, and finding balance

Personally, McCann, who is engaged to Lorri Haines, says she would not consider using weight loss injections. "I feel healthy, strong and full of vitality", she said, outlining her fitness regime which includes sessions with a PT, metabolic classes, and tennis. She follows a clean-eating plan from Monday to Friday but champions moderation, enjoying weekend takeaways and family movie nights with popcorn.

She is determined to be a positive role model for her children. "She sees me and Lorri take good care of ourselves. There’s no better message", McCann said of her daughter Sunday, an aspiring Olympian. The star also spoke candidly about her post-pregnancy body, stating that the little "pregnancy pouch" most mothers have "should be celebrated".

On her home life, McCann admitted the "juggle is real", with everything governed by the school run. She and Lorri are hoping to plan a wedding abroad eventually but are more likely to have another baby first. "We want to squeeze every last drop of joy" from having toddler Finty at home before she starts school in September 2026, McCann added.

Professionally, she is excited about a new behind-the-scenes project launching later in 2026 and her role as a UK ambassador for skincare brand QV, which the whole family uses. Ultimately, Ferne McCann's message is one of rejecting unrealistic perfection. "We shouldn’t feel pressure to shrink ourselves – we should proudly take up space", she concluded.
