Television presenter Fern Britton, 68, has opened up about the lifestyle changes that led to her impressive 5 stone (31kg) weight loss. Speaking on the Postcards From Midlife podcast, she shared the three key adjustments she made to her diet and exercise routine.
First, Britton revealed she cut out sugar entirely, describing herself as previously addicted to the substance. She noted that after eliminating donuts, biscuits, cake, and jam, she now finds sugary foods too sweet, comparing her reduced tolerance to that of cigarette smoke after quitting.
Second, she altered her eating schedule, opting for a substantial breakfast—such as wholemeal toast with peanut butter and banana, or eggs—followed by a main meal around 4pm and a light supper. She emphasised that nothing was forbidden except sugar, and she remains a firm believer in using butter.
Third, Britton incorporated regular exercise, including running via the Couch to 5K programme and weight training at home. She told Hello! magazine last year that weight training has strengthened her legs, arms, and core, particularly after having four children.
