Social media users are using artificial intelligence to reimagine biblical figures as modern-day influencers, creating viral videos that blend ancient stories with contemporary slang. The trend has gained significant traction, with one TikTok account, theaibibleofficial, amassing 26.7 million likes.
The videos typically feature AI-generated characters resembling figures such as Jesus, Adam and Eve, Samson, and David, who appear to vlog their way through biblical events. In one clip posted on X, a smiling Jesus says from the cross: 'Yo fam, they don't know that G-O-D is about to BRB.' Another video shows David declaring: 'Your boy David here. About to yeet this little stone at Goliath and see what happens.'
While the clips have proven wildly popular, they have also sparked debate. Some commenters have condemned them as blasphemous, while others praise the humorous take on the Bible. A few fans have even suggested the videos could serve as an educational tool, with one commenter writing: 'Man if they had this in religion class back in the day I might have paid more attention.'
The videos follow a similar format, showing characters speaking directly to a camera as if recording a vlog, often using Gen Z slang. For instance, an AI-generated Samson says: 'These Philistines thought they could flex on me, big mistake. I just took some pre-workout and I'm finna bring the house down.' Another video, titled 'If Samson had an iPhone', includes Snapchat-style captions.
Longer vlog-style videos have also emerged, such as one titled 'If Daniel had an iPhone', which has garnered over 6.5 million views in four days. In it, Daniel says: 'Alright guys it's official, they're throwing me into the lion's den. I'll film what I can and if I survive this is gonna blow up.' A video by the same creator shows Adam and Eve being cast out of the Garden of Eden, with Adam remarking: 'Drop a like if you've ever been banned from somewhere.'
Despite the controversy, many users have expressed enthusiasm. One TikTok commenter wrote: 'I need the entire Bible explained to me in this format.' Another added: 'Oddly enough these AI bible videos have actually helped me understand the Bible more.'
