Benidorm Expat Warns: Pack Sun Cream or Pay More

A British expat living in Benidorm has issued an urgent warning to tourists heading to the popular Spanish resort this summer: pack sun cream in your suitcase or risk paying extortionate prices.

Expat's warning on social media

Harry Poulton, who shares travel tips and insights into his life in Spain, took to TikTok to address his 65,000 followers. He urged holidaymakers to bring their own sun cream rather than buying it in Benidorm, where prices are significantly higher.

"You don't want to end up paying the extortionate prices here in Benidorm and plus, it's absolutely roasting," he said. "So the last thing you want is to end up like me and get sunburnt because that's what I do every single time."

Poulton admitted he often forgets to pack sun cream and ends up with a massive sunburn. "I never ever buy sun cream, I always leave it to the last minute. I forget about it and end up getting a massive sunburn and I'm just like why have I done that. So guys remember to pack sun cream, make sure very important otherwise you're gonna end up like a lobster."

Benidorm weather in June

Benidorm enjoys around 300 days of sunshine per year. According to the BBC Weather forecast, June temperatures range between 27°C and 29°C with sunshine and light winds. An extended forecast shows consistent sunshine with occasional breezy moments.

June is generally ideal for a beach holiday, with warm, sun-drenched days and slightly cooler evenings. Rainfall is extremely rare, and the sea temperature is refreshing enough for a dip.

If travelling in July or August, temperatures are slightly warmer. August is typically the hottest month, with highs of 34°C and night-time temperatures around 22°C. The sea temperature reaches about 26°C.

Why sun cream is essential

The Mediterranean sunshine is consistently hotter and longer-lasting than in England, making sun protection crucial. Tourists are advised to pack sun cream in their suitcases to avoid paying inflated prices and to prevent sunburn.
