Cleaning guru Mrs Hinch has shared a 'genius' tip for reviving wedding and engagement rings using just two common kitchen ingredients. Sophie Hinchliffe, known to her followers as Mrs Hinch, took to Instagram to demonstrate the method, which involves soaking the jewellery in a mixture of white vinegar and bicarbonate of soda.
In her video, she said: 'Quickly popping my jewellery in a bicarb bath for a clean.' She advised using a mixture of half a cup of white vinegar and two tablespoons of bicarbonate of soda, and leaving the rings to soak for two to three hours. After soaking, she recommended rinsing them under cold water and drying thoroughly with a soft cloth.
The solution fizzes upon mixing, which Mrs Hinch handles by covering the bowl with a cloth. She showcased a before and after comparison of two rings and two brooches, with the results showing them looking like new. The white vinegar dissolves dirt and bacteria without damaging the items, while the bicarbonate of soda cuts through grease and restores shine.
This hack comes as statistics reveal that 14% of Brits neglect to use cleaning products in their bathrooms, and nearly half only clean when expecting visitors. Ignoring bathroom maintenance can lead to stubborn stains and limescale build-up, which can hinder water flow and drainage over time.
