"We will not stand idly by while politicians in Washington play games with our children's health," declared California Governor Gavin Newsom at a press conference in Sacramento. "This pact ensures that science, not conspiracy theories, will guide our public health decisions."

The selection of prominent vaccine sceptic Robert F. Kennedy Jr. as Trump's vice-presidential candidate has particularly alarmed public health officials across the West Coast.
