Pope Leo XIV underwent surgery Tuesday to remove a lung nodule, and the Vatican said the operation was completed “successfully, on schedule and as planned.”
Return to his room
The 71-year-old pontiff returned to his room after the procedure at Rome’s Gemelli hospital, according to a statement from the Vatican spokesman, who promised further information at a later time.
Pope Leo arrived at the hospital earlier in the day before the surgery went ahead.
Further updates promised
No additional details were immediately released, with the Vatican indicating that more information would follow in due course.
