Television presenter Joel Dommett has publicly lauded his friend and colleague Davina McCall as "inspirational" following her courageous fight against a series of serious health issues, including a rare brain tumour and early-stage breast cancer.
A Year of Immense Challenge
Speaking to The Mirror on Saturday, Dommett expressed his admiration for McCall, who has endured a gruelling 12 months. In November 2024, Davina announced she had been diagnosed with a colloid cyst, a rare type of benign brain tumour. She subsequently underwent a demanding six-hour operation to remove the 14mm growth.
Almost exactly a year later, on 8th November, she revealed a second health battle. McCall shared that she had been diagnosed with breast cancer six weeks prior and had already undergone successful surgery. She discovered a lump in her breast while on the set of ITV's The Masked Singer, prompted to check by signs in the studio toilets.
McCall's 'Superpower' of Inspiration
Joel Dommett, who hosts the popular singing show alongside Davina on the judging panel, was full of praise for her strength. "The last couple of years she's had have been mad. She's just been incredible - she's got over all of it and been through a lot," he said.
He went further, highlighting her unique ability to uplift others. "In a strange way, it couldn't have happened to a more inspirational person. She just makes people feel better about whatever it is they're going through," Dommett stated. He described this capacity as her "superpower," adding, "If anyone else is going through any of these things, she has the power to make people feel better about it."
Looking Ahead to a Masked Return
The duo are set to be reunited on screen very soon. They will both return for the new series of The Masked Singer in January, with a Christmas special airing on Boxing Day. Dommett shared his excitement about the panel's reunion, noting how they all "respect and love each other."
Davina McCall has been transparent about her diagnoses in a bid to help others. She confirmed her breast cancer was caught "very very early" but will require radiotherapy. Following her lumpectomy nearly three weeks before her announcement, doctors have given her the all-clear from surgery.
Her candid disclosure, much like her openness about her brain tumour, continues to resonate, proving Dommett's words true: through her vulnerability and strength, Davina McCall inspires a nation.
