Barry Manilow, 82, Postpones January Concerts for Early Lung Cancer Surgery
Barry Manilow postpones concerts for lung cancer surgery

Music icon Barry Manilow has announced he will undergo surgery to remove an early-stage cancerous tumour from his lung, forcing the postponement of his planned January concert dates.

Diagnosis and Discovery

The 82-year-old singer revealed the diagnosis on Monday, 22 December 2025. He explained that the tumour was discovered after an extended period of bronchitis that lasted six weeks, followed by a relapse of another five weeks. As a precaution, his doctor ordered an MRI scan.

"The MRI discovered a cancerous spot on my left lung that needs to be removed," Manilow wrote in an Instagram post. "It's pure luck (and a great doctor) that it was found so early."

Treatment Plan and Prognosis

According to a statement from his representatives, the growth is a stage one tumour. Doctors believe the cancer has not spread, leading to a positive prognosis. Manilow himself stated he expects to require no chemotherapy or radiation treatment following the procedure.

"Just chicken soup and 'I Love Lucy' reruns," the singer quipped about his recovery plans. The surgery is scheduled for late December, with a full month of recuperation planned for January.

Rescheduled Concert Dates

The medical intervention means Manilow has postponed ten concerts originally set for January across nine locations in the US states of Florida, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, and Ohio.

His return to the stage is now planned for Valentine's weekend, beginning 12 February, at the Westgate Las Vegas Resort and Casino. His arena tour will then resume on 28 February in Tampa, Florida.

Fans holding tickets for the affected January dates are advised to await new scheduling information from the event promoters.
