Wraps recalled over possible E. coli contamination risk

Four popular wrap products have been recalled from shelves over fears of possible E. coli contamination. The Food Standards Agency (FSA) issued the recall notice on Friday, August 21, for a small number of wraps from Summit Foods.

The organisation explained that the brand recalled various filled wraps due to a “possible contamination” with E. coli (STEC). The recall covers wraps sold in England, Scotland and Wales.

Precautionary recall and customer advice

The recall is being carried out as a precautionary measure. Notices will be displayed in stores at points of sale and on websites selling the affected wraps.

In Summit Foods’ customer notice, the company urged customers to dispose of the products immediately and not to eat them.

Consumers are also asked to provide proof of purchase, explaining where and when, and contact Summit Foods at sales@summitfoods.co.uk for a refund.

Health risks from STEC

In a risk statement, the FSA said: “The possible presence of Shiga toxin-producing E. coli (STEC) in the products listed above.

“Symptoms caused by STEC can include severe diarrhoea (including bloody diarrhoea), abdominal pain and occasionally haemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS), a serious condition that can lead to kidney failure and can be fatal.

“If you are experiencing these symptoms, you should stay away from work, school or nursery until you have stopped having symptoms for at least 48 hours to avoid passing it on to others.”
