Wegovy Pill Travel Tips: Key Advantages Over Injections

The new Wegovy weight loss pill, recently approved by the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA), offers significant advantages for travellers compared to the injectable version. Unlike injections, the pill is stored at room temperature, eliminating the need for refrigeration during holidays.

Key Differences for Holidaymakers

Aaron Arman, superintendent pharmacist at treatment provider CheqUp, highlighted the travel benefits: "Unlike injectable GLP-1 treatments, the Wegovy pill is stored at room temperature. No cold chain, no packing ice for travel, no worrying about keeping it refrigerated on holiday. For people who travel frequently, this can be a meaningful quality-of-life difference."

The pill contains the same active ingredient, semaglutide, which reduces appetite and slows digestion. It is available privately through pharmacies or online vendors, but not yet on the NHS.

Survey Reveals Travel Disruptions

A CheqUp survey of 1,000 injectable weight-loss medication users found that 50% had to change, delay, or cancel a trip due to concerns about managing injections or side effects while away. Lisa Tookey, CEO of CheqUp, noted: "For a lot of people, the hardest part of weight loss medication is not just taking it but managing everything around it: the questions, the judgement and the logistics. That is a feeling that becomes increasingly visible for some users when they travel."

Practical and Emotional Benefits

Tookey added: "Our research shows injectable GLP-1s have already changed holiday behaviour, with people thinking about airport security, fridge access, side effects, travel insurance and what happens if they need support abroad. That is why daily weight-loss medication is such an important development. Pills can make treatment feel more private, more portable and easier to manage while travelling. They will not remove the need for proper clinical advice, but they could reduce some of the practical and emotional friction that currently comes with injections."
