New UK vaping rules that began on Thursday make it illegal to sell vaping or nicotine products to anyone under 18 across the country. Adults who buy, or attempt to buy, these products for someone underage are also breaking the law, as are those who give them away or offer discounted products or vouchers to promote sales.
Penalties for retailers
Retailers caught selling to under-18s face a £200 fixed penalty notice in England, Wales and Scotland, with court fines reaching £2,500. In Northern Ireland, the proposed fixed penalty notice is £250, with court fines of up to £5,000.
The Government warned: "Selling to someone under the age of sale is a criminal offence and may result in formal action, including the issuing of a fixed penalty notice (FPN) or prosecution."
Exemptions for stop-smoking services
Stop-smoking services can still provide vaping and nicotine products as part of arrangements with a public authority.
