Sara Davies, the entrepreneur and former BBC Dragons' Den panelist, has revealed she received an ADHD diagnosis this week, describing it as a "mic drop moment." The founder of Crafter's Companion shared the news on her podcast, Mind Your Business, which she co-hosts with her sister Helen Goddard.
Diagnosis After Neuropsychological Exams
Davies underwent "intense neuropsychological exams" and received her results on Tuesday. She explained that she wasn't simply seeking an ADHD label but wanted to understand how her brain works. "I went for a comprehensive neuropsychological examination, and it tests your brain and how your brain operates across so many planes," she said. The findings confirmed she has ADHD, specifically the combined type, which includes inattentive, hyperactive, and impulsive symptoms.
Links to Entrepreneurialism
Davies, who launched Crafter's Companion while at university and later returned to rescue the company in 2024, noted that many entrepreneurs exhibit traits of hyperactivity and impulsivity. "We’ve got 50 million ideas, we’ve got loads of tabs open now, brain all at once is a big mind palace," she said. She is now eager to explore how her diagnosis relates to entrepreneurial success and how to implement a self-care support system to benefit her business.
Davies stepped back from her day-to-day role at Crafter's Companion last year after appointing former CBI regional director Diane Sharp as managing director. She continues to present on BBC's Morning Live and host quiz shows Time is Money and The Big Idea Works.
