Man with smallest penis undergoes life-changing surgery

A man whose tiny penis has made him feel “horrible” all his life has undergone a “life-changing” procedure funded by public donations.

Michael Phillips, whose appendage measures less than a centimetre (0.38 inches) and is smaller than a paracetamol, had semi-permanent filler injected into his penis at a hospital in North Carolina on Monday.

Procedure details

According to TMZ, the procedure was designed to increase his girth, with the hope that Michael could no longer need to rely on nappies, giving him a degree of “normalcy and comfort”. The surgery reportedly took around three hours, with doctors applying numbing cream and administering an anaesthetic injection before giving him the filler injections on all sides of his penis.

He is currently experiencing swelling, which is expected to last for around a week, and will not see the final result until it subsides. Despite the pain caused by the injections, Michael considers the procedure a success.

Doctors reportedly told him he could return in six months for another round of filler, either to increase his size further or maintain the results if it dissolves quickly.

Impact on his life

Michael has previously spoken about the ways in which the condition has also had an adverse impact on his life. Michael said: “The biggest challenges I’ve faced [are] having a sexual relationship and still being a virgin and being able to talk about it openly because of how embarrassing of a topic it is.”

He raised the money through GoFundMe and a string of media appearances, including an interview on ITV’s This Morning.

Gratitude for donations

Describing the procedure as “a big step toward living with more dignity and independence”, he expressed his gratitude after donations exceeded the original $6,000 (£4,500) target.

He wrote: “Because my story was recently shared in the media, this fundraiser has exceeded its original goal. Thank you to everyone who has donated!

“The original estimate for the procedure was $6,000 plus taxes. The additional funds raised will be used to cover the final exact medical costs, necessary post-procedure prescriptions, travel and lodging for the procedure, and to support my living expenses and lost income while I am recovering and unable to work.

“Over the years, my story has been featured in the news and on television, which has brought some awareness to my condition but also added to the emotional weight I carry.

“While this procedure will not cure my micropenis condition, it would make a significant difference in my daily life by helping me avoid the need for pull ups and regain some normalcy and comfort.”
