Emmerdale actor Danny Miller has revealed that his father, Vince Miller, a celebrated entertainer and former VIP host at Manchester United, was diagnosed with dementia in 2025. Danny, known for playing Aaron Dingle on the ITV soap, has been candid about the emotional toll of watching his father decline.
Vince Miller: A Showbiz Legend
Vince Miller, 90, worked as the VIP host at Manchester United for nearly 30 years, earning the nickname 'king of comperes'. He spent 29 years at Old Trafford, where he interviewed football icon Sir Alex Ferguson. Over his 65-year career, Vince also worked with stars like Johnny Mathis and Shirley Bassey, and even spoke at comedian Bernard Manning's funeral.
At 82, Vince retired from showbiz, telling the Manchester Evening News: 'I've no upset about it, the time is now to get out while you're on top, you don't want people saying not him again!' Danny organized a charity bash to celebrate his father's retirement, calling him the 'best in the business'. Vince said on stage: 'I've had a great career, I've done it all as a presenter, comedian, singer, I've been very fortunate. As Edith Piaf said, Je ne regrette rien, no regrets!'
Danny Miller's Emmerdale Career
Danny Miller joined Emmerdale in 2008 as Aaron Dingle, quickly becoming a fan favourite. His storylines have included affairs, a romance with Robert Sugden (Ryan Hawley), murder, and prison time. Recently, Aaron returned to find Robert hosting a new guest, Serena Sugden (Casey Al-Shaqsy), and has warned Robert to be cautious.
The Dementia Diagnosis
In 2025, Vince was diagnosed with dementia. Danny has been open about the challenges, sharing an emotional update on Good Morning Britain earlier this year. He said: 'It's sad, and, you know, me and my dad were thick as thieves at one point, and, you know, losing him over and over again is awful.'
Danny added: 'There's good days and bad days. There was a time last week where I didn't know if I'd be sat here because he's up and down with his general health anyway, but dementia always makes it feel somewhat worse. There's urine infections that suddenly make them more confused, and then his health declined, he looked ill.'
Impact and Support
Vince now lives in a care home in Manchester. Danny has used his platform to raise awareness about dementia, highlighting the highs and lows of caring for a loved one with the disease. He previously said of his father: 'He's doing so very well and he's done it all himself – so now he's up there. I'm so proud.'
