Summit Foods is recalling four snack wraps sold in UK shops over fears they may contain Shiga toxin-producing E.coli (STEC), a bacteria that can cause severe illness, kidney failure and, in some cases, death.
The recall covers the Snacksters Chicken Fajita Wrap, Snacksters Hoi Sin Wrap, East Street Deli Sweet Chilli Chicken Wrap and Target a Snack Chicken Fajita Wrap. It applies to all use-by dates up to and including September 5, 2026.
Products affected and where they were sold
The Snacksters Chicken Fajita Wrap was sold at Iceland and Bestway Wholesale. Notices will be displayed in stores and on websites selling the affected wraps.
The Food Standards Agency (FSA) has advised anyone who bought any of the affected items not to eat them and to return them to the store where they were purchased or dispose of them.
Health risks and symptoms
STEC can cause severe diarrhoea, including bloody diarrhoea, and abdominal pain. In some cases it can lead to haemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS), a serious condition that can result in kidney failure and can be fatal.
Children under five, adults over 65 and people with weakened immune systems are among those most at risk.
Advice for consumers
Anyone experiencing symptoms should stay away from work, school or nursery until they have been free of symptoms for at least 48 hours to avoid passing the infection on to others.
An FSA statement said: "Symptoms caused by STEC can include severe diarrhoea (including bloody diarrhoea), abdominal pain and occasionally haemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS), a serious condition that can lead to kidney failure and can be fatal.
"If you are experiencing these symptoms, you should stay away from work, school or nursery until you have stopped having symptoms for at least 48 hours to avoid passing it on to others."
The FSA also advised people to "dispose of the product and provide proof of purchase on sales@summitfoods.co.uk, stating when and where it was purchased, for a full refund".
