A Romanian family on a road trip in Italy drove 60 miles along the A21 motorway before realizing their 31-year-old son had died in the back seat. The man suffered a fatal cardiac arrest during the journey, according to Italian publication Corriere della Sera.
Discovery at Service Station
The parents were seated in the front, while their son was in the back. They grew worried when he failed to respond to them and stopped at a service station in Pavese, between Casteggio and Voghera. Upon checking on him, they discovered he had no pulse.
They immediately contacted emergency services, but paramedics could only confirm that he had passed away. The parents stated he had last communicated with them approximately 62 miles (100 kilometres) earlier, but they had assumed he had simply dozed off during the journey.
Health Background and Symptoms
His parents informed emergency responders that he had minor cardiac problems. Authorities reported he appeared to have died peacefully, transitioning from sleep to death without anyone in the vehicle realizing.
Common warning signs of a heart attack include chest discomfort or tightness, difficulty breathing, pain radiating into the arm, shoulder, neck, or jaw, nausea, and sudden perspiration. Symptoms are not always as severe or apparent as they are frequently depicted on television. Some individuals experience only mild pain or something resembling indigestion.
Heart Attack Statistics
The British Heart Foundation reports there are approximately 100,000 hospital admissions for heart attacks each year in the UK, equating to roughly one every five minutes. Across the Atlantic, Medical News Today suggests that around 800,000 people suffer a heart attack annually in the USA.
Factors including diet, lifestyle habits, and existing medical conditions can heighten your likelihood of developing coronary heart disease. Warning signs of a heart attack, according to the NHS, include chest pain that may be severe, although some people may experience it more subtly, which the NHS likens to "similar to indigestion". Nevertheless, particular warning indicators of a heart attack can manifest up to a month in advance.
