The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) has confirmed the full list of eight infectious diseases that qualify for the monthly Personal Independence Payment (PIP). PIP provides financial support for millions in England and Wales, with over 3.7 million claimants as of April 2026. The tax-free, non-means-tested payment helps with extra costs from long-term disabilities, physical conditions, or mental health challenges.
PIP Components and Rates
PIP includes a daily living component and a mobility component. Applicants may be eligible for one, both, or neither based on assessment. The DWP updated payment rates for 2026 with a 3.8% inflationary increase. The new weekly rates are: Daily Living Standard Rate £76.70, Enhanced Rate £114.60; Mobility Standard Rate £30.30, Enhanced Rate £80.00.
Eligibility and List of Infectious Diseases
You can get PIP if you are 16 or over, have a long-term condition or disability, have difficulty with everyday tasks or getting around, and expect difficulties to last at least 12 months. The eight infectious diseases currently claimed for are: HIV/AIDS (5,627 claimants), Coronavirus COVID-19 (6,163), Viral diseases other than hepatitis and poliomyelitis (975), Bacterial diseases other (824), Tuberculosis (640), Malaria (9), Protozoal diseases other (6), and Infectious diseases other (596).
