DWP confirms 18 blood conditions for £748 monthly PIP payment
DWP confirms 18 blood conditions for £748 monthly PIP (02.10.2026)

The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) has confirmed the full list of 18 blood conditions that could qualify for financial support, totalling up to a maximum of £748 per month. Individuals living with certain blood conditions that affect their independence are eligible for the Personal Independence Payment (PIP), which could see up to £187 arrive into their bank account each week.

10,014 qualifying claims

According to the latest DWP data released earlier in September 2026, there are a total of 10,014 qualifying PIP claims for these 18 blood conditions. It comes after the annual uplift in benefit rates saw PIP values rise by 3.8 per cent in April this year.

PIP is not a single flat rate. Instead, it is divided into two parts based on how a claimant’s condition affects their independence.

Components and rates

The daily living component covers the extra costs of managing everyday tasks. The standard rate is set at £76.55 per week, while the enhanced rate provides £114.80.

The mobility component addresses the challenges of getting around. The base rate for this component is £30.20, with an increased level of £80.10.

By qualifying for the enhanced daily living rate and a portion of the mobility support, eligible claimants can see their weekly total reach the £187 mark - totalling £748 per month.

Non-exhaustive list

While the DWP currently identifies 18 blood conditions as qualifying criteria, officials for the government agency emphasise that this list is not exhaustive.

Rather than a specific diagnosis, the department focuses on how the condition impacts the claimant’s quality of life and ability to complete daily routines like cooking, washing yourself, managing medication and moving around.

It is a non-means-tested benefit, which means your income, savings, or employment status do not affect whether you can claim. Your difficulties must have been present for at least 3 months and expected to last at least 9 months to be considered for PIP.
