Doctor Reveals Pain Warning Signs Brits Should Never Ignore

Research from Deep Relief, the topical muscle and joint pain specialists, reveals that 80% of Brits have experienced muscle or joint pain, with 51% currently living with pain. Many dismiss persistent aches as ageing, but GP Dr Binita Kalaria, advisor to Deep Relief, warns that pain persisting, worsening, or accompanied by other symptoms may signal underlying conditions like arthritis or inflammatory joint disease.

Back Pain

Back pain affects 68% of Brits. Dr Kalaria notes it is commonly caused by muscle strain, poor posture, or prolonged sitting. She advises: "Pain lasting several weeks, spreading down one or both legs, or accompanied by numbness or weakness should be assessed by a GP."

Leg Pain

Over half of Brits (52%) experience leg pain, often after prolonged standing or sitting. Dr Kalaria recommends regular movement and stretching to prevent stiffness. She warns: "Sudden unexplained leg pain, or pain with swelling, redness or warmth, should be assessed by a healthcare professional."

Arthritis and Joint Pain

Deep Relief's research shows 23% of Brits report arthritis, most commonly in hands, fingers, and knees. Dr Kalaria says: "Persistent joint pain, particularly if accompanied by prolonged morning stiffness, swollen joints or symptoms affecting several joints, may indicate arthritis or another inflammatory joint condition." She recommends Deep Relief Duo Joint Pain Gel for non-serious arthritic pain.

Shoulder Pain

Poor posture is a major cause, with 86% of Brits believing their posture could be better. Dr Kalaria advises improving workstations and taking regular movement breaks. Don't ignore: "Pain after an injury, pain that regularly disturbs your sleep, or difficulty lifting your arm."

Arm Pain

Around 28% of Brits experience arm pain, often from overuse, repetitive movements, or sport. Dr Kalaria recommends gentle stretching, rest, and avoiding repetitive strain. Warning signs: "Persistent pain with numbness or weakness, or pain following a significant injury."

Neck Pain

One in five people have neck pain, with 57% blaming long computer hours. Dr Kalaria suggests regular screen breaks, good posture, and frequent position changes. Seek help for: "Neck pain after an injury, or pain accompanied by numbness, tingling or weakness in the arms or hands."

Knee Pain

About 35% report knee pain, linked to sport, overuse, or excess weight. Dr Kalaria explains: "When you walk, your knees experience forces of three to six times your body weight." Don't ignore: "Pain persisting weeks, causing ongoing swelling or making the knee give way." For everyday relief, she suggests Deep Relief Actiflex Patch.

Dr Kalaria concludes: "Most muscle and joint pain improves with regular movement, maintaining a healthy weight, getting enough sleep and using appropriate topical pain relief. If pain persists, worsens or is accompanied by swelling, weakness or numbness, don't assume it's simply part of getting older – seek advice from your GP."
