Corrie star Beverley Callard issues 'painful' cancer update

Coronation Street star Beverley Callard has been keeping her fans updated on her cancer journey. The 69-year-old soap actress was diagnosed with breast cancer a few months ago and has been posting regular updates on social media ever since.

Pain and a suspected blood clot

In a video shared on Instagram on Wednesday, Beverley spoke directly to the camera, captioning the post: "A mixed day today, some positive and some not so positive! Getting ready to go back to work next week but first… Two hospital appointments."

She expressed excitement about returning to work but also highlighted the negatives. "The negative side is I have had quite a lot of pain," she said. "In my right neck. I had to go to the GP today and it is a suspected blood clot, which can happen if you have got cancer and if you have had surgery."

She added: "Now, it might not be, but you know when you think 'oh, no, please no.'" This meant the actress had to go back to the hospital for further tests. However, she reassured fans: "But, I'm feeling fine. I'm feeling quite positive."

Earlier diagnosis and surgery

The Coronation Street legend announced in February that she had been diagnosed with early-stage breast cancer. She underwent surgery in April but later revealed the cancer had spread to a lymph node. She explained that her consultant confirmed the surgery "went really well" and they managed to "cut the cancer out."

Beverley elaborated: "They're pleased with how the surgery went. And they also have two or three lymph nodes. And this is how she explained it to me. The lymph nodes are like a staircase. And if cancer is in the lymph nodes, it sort of tends to climb up the stairs. That's oversimplifying it, but just to help explain. And they took three, and the cancer is in the first lymph node. It's not in the second two and three. So it is there, but it's only small."

Fans have been sending messages of support, and Beverley remains optimistic about her recovery.
