Summit Foods has apologised after recalling several filled wraps over possible contamination with E.coli bacteria that can produce Shiga toxin (STEC). The Food Standards Agency (FSA) said the recall affects four types of wraps and fajitas.
Products affected and use-by dates
The recalled products are individually packaged Snacksters Chicken Fajita Wrap, Snacksters Hoi Sin Wrap, East Street Deli Sweet Chilli Chicken Wrap, and Target a Snack Chicken Fajita Wrap. All have a use-by date of up to and including September 5, 2026.
The FSA advised people who bought the products not to eat them and to dispose of them.
Health risks and symptoms
Symptoms linked to STEC can include severe diarrhoea (including bloody diarrhoea), abdominal pain, and occasionally haemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS), a serious condition that can lead to kidney failure and can be fatal.
The food watchdog said: 'Symptoms caused by STEC can include severe diarrhoea (including bloody diarrhoea), abdominal pain and occasionally haemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS), a serious condition that can lead to kidney failure and can be fatal. If you are experiencing these symptoms, you should stay away from work, school or nursery until you have stopped having symptoms for at least 48 hours to avoid passing it on to others.'
Company response and refunds
Summit Foods issued a statement following the FSA recall: 'As part of our routine testing, we have identified a potential food safety issue affecting a small number of our wrap products. We are working closely with the authorities and our customers to recall the affected products. Consumer safety remains our highest priority. We are sorry for any concern or inconvenience this may cause.'
Customers seeking a refund can send a proof of purchase to sales@summitfoods.co.uk.
