Biohacker Bryan Johnson Reveals Rare Autoimmune Disease 'Stomach Eating Itself'
Bryan Johnson Reveals Rare Autoimmune Disease

Bryan Johnson, the American entrepreneur and biohacker famed for his multi-million-dollar anti-ageing regimen, has disclosed that he suffers from a rare autoimmune disease called Autoimmune Gastritis (AIG), which causes his stomach to attack itself. The 48-year-old revealed the diagnosis in May, stating he believes he has had the condition for longer without symptoms.

Discovery and Diagnosis

Johnson shared the news while commenting on his hypothyroidism treatment on X, formerly Twitter. He explained that daily thyroid pills allowed his body to function normally, but a hidden issue persisted: his stomach began attacking itself. He noted that no routine test detected it, and he experienced no symptoms. Despite AIG being incurable, Johnson is determined to fight it, saying, “In the age of AI, multiomics, and custom-built DNA, proteins, and cells, no condition should be presumed incurable simply because no one has yet tried to cure it with today's stack.”

Who Is Bryan Johnson?

Johnson is an American entrepreneur and venture capitalist turned viral biohacker, best known for his anti-ageing project, “Project Blueprint.” Born in Provo, Utah, he earned a degree in International Studies from Brigham Young University in 2003 and an MBA from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business in 2007. He founded Braintree, a payment system for e-commerce, which he sold to PayPal in 2013. He also created OS Fund, a venture capital firm investing in early-stage tech and science companies, and Kernel, a startup developing brain-tracking devices. Johnson was raised Mormon but left the church at 24 after a decade-long depression, describing it as “torture” on The Diary Of A CEO podcast in August 2023. He has three children from a previous marriage.

Project Blueprint and Anti-Ageing Regimen

Launched in 2021, Project Blueprint initially involved six monthly one-litre plasma transfusions, including one from his son. However, Johnson later stopped these, citing lack of benefits and potential dangers highlighted by the FDA. He now follows a strict plant-based diet and supplement regimen. In an interview with podcaster Jay Shetty, Johnson revealed he takes 54 supplements daily, exercises for an hour, and consumes about 2,500 calories between 6am and 11.30am—matching the NHS-recommended daily intake for an average male. He avoids cheat meals, stating that the brief enjoyment of pizza or doughnuts leads to a day of misery. His meals consist of broccoli, cauliflower, lentils, hemp, pea protein, berries, nuts, and seeds. He splits his meals into three: a morning mix of broccoli, cauliflower, black lentils, ginger, and garlic; a midday blend of macadamia nuts, walnuts, flax seeds, pomegranate juice, berries, and protein powders; and an evening mix of vegetables, berries, nuts, and seeds.

Blueprint Product Line

Johnson launched his Blueprint product line on Amazon to share his regimen with the public. The assortment includes cold-pressed olive oil, cocoa powder, multivitamins, NAC supplements, and other capsules. He also offers a Supplement Stack with eight daily pills and a monthly supply of a supplement drink for those aiming to optimise their health goals.
