Novo Nordisk exec fatally stabbed in Connecticut rampage

A senior executive at pharmaceutical giant Novo Nordisk has been identified as the victim of a brutal and apparently random stabbing attack in Connecticut that shocked the local community.

Gordon Johnsen, 67, was fatally stabbed outside a Stop & Shop grocery store in Ridgefield on Tuesday afternoon in what authorities are describing as a completely unprovoked assault.

Miraculous Survival Amid Tragedy

In a devastating twist of fate, Johnsen's wife, who was with him during the attack, survived after being stabbed multiple times herself. The couple were simply going about their daily shopping when tragedy struck without warning.

Eyewitnesses described a scene of chaos and horror as the assailant, identified as 27-year-old Michael Chaves, allegedly launched his violent rampage in the store's car park.

A Respected Career Cut Short

Gordon Johnsen served as Vice President of Data Science at Novo Nordisk, the Danish pharmaceutical company renowned for producing popular weight-loss drugs Wegovy and Ozempic. Colleagues remember him as a brilliant mind and valued team member.

"We are deeply saddened by the tragic death of our colleague Gordon Johnsen," a Novo Nordisk spokesperson confirmed. "Our thoughts are with his family and loved ones during this difficult time."

Multiple Victims in Shopping Centre Horror

The violence wasn't confined to the Johnsens. Police confirmed that Chaves allegedly stabbed two other individuals during his rampage, bringing the total number of victims to four.

All victims were rushed to nearby hospitals, where Gordon Johnsen was tragically pronounced dead. His wife remains in serious but stable condition, while the other two victims are expected to survive their injuries.

Swift Police Response and Arrest

Connecticut State Police responded rapidly to multiple emergency calls reporting the stabbings. Officers located and apprehended Michael Chaves at the scene without further incident.

Chaves now faces multiple serious charges, including murder, assault, and risk of injury to a child. The latter charge suggests children may have been present during the violent outburst.

The investigation continues as authorities work to determine what motivated this seemingly random act of violence that has left a community in mourning and a pharmaceutical company grieving the loss of a key executive.
