Woman claims she went to Hell for 18 days before Heaven

Kathy McDaniel, now 79, claims she experienced the afterlife during an 18-day medically induced coma in 1999, describing a harrowing journey through Hell before being reunited with her deceased fiancé in Heaven. She says the ordeal began when her lungs failed due to severe inflammation and fluid build-up, leading doctors to place her in a coma.

The Descent into Hell

According to McDaniel, she was suddenly hurled into a vast void and found herself in a hellish place. “It was frightening, foggy, smelly, hot. I never felt dead – it was just always me. And I went through this really awful, long experience,” she said. At first, she was in complete darkness, then a voice roared at her, asking if she knew where she was. Terrified, she whispered, “Hell.”

She recalls emerging onto a chaotic scene resembling a burning city with fires, screaming, and people running. Over the following days, she was tormented by demonic figures that encouraged her to despair. One robed demon resembling a judge told her she would be freed if she cleared a field of blackberry canes with round-tipped scissors, but the branches grew back continuously. Despite this, McDaniel vowed, “I will not despair. I will get out of here.”

A Turning Point

After what felt like long months, a demonic female led her to a group of women in rags. They were taken to a freezing landscape with a blizzard and given jobs in a desolate log cabin. When a comrade believed it was Christmas on Earth, McDaniel began singing a carol. Despite being ordered to stop, she continued, and suddenly felt flooded with immense love, peace, and joy. “I was blasted into Heaven,” she said.

Heaven and Reunion

In Heaven, she found herself in a cathedral-like marble room surrounded by an otherworldly garden filled with misty, warm white light. There, she met her former fiancé, Rick, who had died a month before her hospitalization. He appeared much younger, around 35, and they communicated telepathically. He told her, “Good job, I’m proud of you – you haven’t lost your touch.” He also showed her a book recording her life and said she could not stay, as she had too much left to do.

Waking and Aftermath

McDaniel woke up in her hospital bed after 18 days and spent two more months recovering. She initially shared her experience with family but kept quiet for fear of shame, as many people were dismissive or asked why she ended up in Hell. Over the decades, she has come to view the experience as profound, teaching her to appreciate life and wake up spiritually. She has since written a memoir titled Misfit in Hell to Heaven Expat and works with others who have had near-death experiences. “The three most important words in the English language are God, Love, and Home – they are all the same thing,” she said.
