TV Star Davina McCall to Marry After Health Scare
Beloved television presenter Davina McCall is reportedly planning an intimate winter wedding in the New Year to her fiancé, celebrity hairstylist Michael Douglas. This heartwarming decision comes shortly after McCall publicly confirmed her recent breast cancer diagnosis, adding a profound layer of meaning to their upcoming nuptials.
A Journey of Resilience and Love
The 55-year-old star, who underwent brain surgery just last November to remove a benign tumour, confirmed earlier this month that she had discovered a lump in her breast whilst checking herself. She credited Lorraine Kelly's Change + Check campaign posters at ITV studios for prompting her to be vigilant.
Fortunately, McCall's cancer was caught 'very very early'. She has since had the cancer removed via a lumpectomy. As an 'insurance policy' to remain cancer-free, she is scheduled to undergo five days of radiotherapy in January.
A source revealed to New! magazine that these consecutive health scares have profoundly shifted McCall's perspective. 'After all she's been through Davina feels she can't take anything for granted,' the source shared. 'Not just one, but two health scares really send home the poignant message of who and what really matters.'
An Intimate Celebration of Life
Davina and Michael, who got engaged during a romantic summer break in Ibiza in July after six years together, have decided there is no reason to wait. The couple are hoping for a quiet Christmas, followed by a small, intimate wedding at the start of next year.
The ceremony will be a far cry from a large, showbiz affair. It is expected to be attended only by 'close friends' who have supported Davina through her recent health challenges. 'She doesn't want too much of a fuss,' the source added. 'It'll be focusing on the couple and their love for each other. They'll have a big showbiz party later but right now they want to get married.'
This will be the third marriage for McCall, who was previously married to Andrew Leggett in 1997 and to Pet Rescue presenter Matthew Robertson for 17 years before their split in 2017. She shares three children with Robertson: Holly, 23, Tilly, 21, and Chester, 19.
Using her platform to spread a vital message, Davina told her Instagram followers: 'The message here, is know your boobs. Notice any changes. Don't procrastinate. Get your free checkups. And never ignore a niggle.' Her powerful advocacy highlights the importance of early detection in the fight against breast cancer, one of the most common cancers in the UK.
