Aldi 39p Kidney Beans Could Help Lower Cholesterol Levels
Aldi 39p Kidney Beans Could Lower Cholesterol

A 39p item at Aldi could help reduce cholesterol levels, a key factor in lowering the risk of stroke and cardiovascular disease, which accounts for more than 100,000 deaths each year.

While cholesterol is essential for survival, too much of the wrong kind can lead to atherosclerosis, commonly known as artery hardening. Because high cholesterol often has no symptoms, many people remain unaware of their condition until a blood test reveals it.

Beans, Lentils, and Peas for Heart Health

According to HEART UK, beans, lentils, and peas are an excellent source of protein that can help lower cholesterol and support heart health when eaten regularly. Just four servings a week can make a real difference, its experts add.

Kidney beans are easy to incorporate into meals such as chilli, stews, and vegetarian burgers. At Aldi, they are priced at 39p, making them a budget-friendly option.

Nutritional Benefits and Dietary Advice

Beyond cholesterol support, kidney beans are rich in vitamins, minerals, and healthy proteins, and are loaded with fibre – something 96% of UK adults need more of, according to NHS guidelines.

The NHS advises that cutting down on fatty foods can effectively reduce cholesterol, though unsaturated fats can remain part of a healthy diet. Health officials recommend eating more nuts and seeds, plenty of fruits and vegetables, brown rice, wholegrain and wholewheat bread and pasta, and increasing intake of olive oil and oily fish such as salmon and mackerel.

Giving up smoking and moderating alcohol consumption can also help lower cholesterol levels.
