Andorra keeper Owono breaks silence after De Miguel death

FC Andorra goalkeeper Jesus Owono has spoken publicly for the first time since his collision with Tenerife striker Jesus de Miguel, describing the period as the most difficult days of his life. The incident occurred during Tenerife's match against FC Andorra, when De Miguel crashed into Owono before later dying in hospital from a cardiac arrest. The striker had suffered a blunt cardiac injury from the collision.

Emotional statement released through Andorra

The 25-year-old Equatoguinean shot-stopper released a statement on Wednesday, which was published by Andorra. In it, he said: "These are the most difficult days of my life. I struggle to find the words, and it is very hard for me to process anything that has happened."

He added: "I feel an immense amount of pain over the loss of Jesus. My thoughts are with him, his family, and everyone who loved him. I know there will be many issues to address. I will face whatever comes with the utmost respect. Right now, honestly, I cannot think of anything other than Jesus and the pain we are all experiencing. Rest in peace, Jesus."

Racist abuse and club response

Owono was subjected to racist abuse on social media on Tuesday after the game, which led him to delete his entire Instagram account that day. Andorra has asked for "everyone to show the utmost sensitivity and respect" for their goalkeeper. Reports in Spain indicate that no charges will be brought against Owono.

De Miguel, who was 30 years old, had scored 11 goals in 34 games for the club since joining in 2025 from Castellon. All of this week's upcoming Copa del Rey and Copa de la Reina matches have been postponed as a mark of mourning.
