British entrepreneur and nightclub owner Wayne Lineker has shared a heartening festive update with his fans, confirming he has beaten pneumonia and is set to leave hospital on Boxing Day.
A Festive Spirit in Hospital
The 63-year-old, who was rushed to hospital by ambulance last week after suffering a second severe pneumonia attack, posted a cheerful Christmas Day photo on Instagram. In the image, he is surrounded by nurses in a hospital corridor, wearing a red and white striped pyjama set and a fluffy Santa hat.
Captioning the photo, he wrote: 'Merry Christmas everyone love from me and all the girls at the Bursted ward Bassildon Hospital. Christmas tunes are on!! Been video calling my family too.' This comes almost a month after he first fell ill with the serious lung infection.
Road to Recovery and a Boxing Day Discharge
In a video recorded from his hospital bed on Wednesday, Wayne revealed the positive news to his followers. 'Guys, I just got the news. I'm going home! But not until Boxing Day,' he said. 'I have beat pneumonia!! After undoubtedly the toughest six weeks of my life I will go home Boxing Day.'
He explained that he would spend Christmas Day in hospital to complete the final two days of his IV course of antibiotics. The star expressed his immense gratitude to the 'incredible doctors and Nurses at Basildon hospital'.
A Serious Health Battle
Wayne Lineker's health ordeal has been severe. He revealed he had almost lost his life and underwent an operation on his lung to alleviate intense pain. After initially being discharged, he suffered a severe second attack just four days later while being cared for at home by his son, Sean.
He has also suggested a link between his immune system's struggle and his decision to become sober earlier this year. 'I’ve had countless scans and blood tests,' he previously stated, noting that his immune system 'hasn’t been the same since I stopped drinking alcohol'.
Despite the challenging festive period spent in hospital, Wayne's latest update strikes a tone of triumph and gratitude as he looks forward to returning home.
