Wayne Lineker Rushed to Hospital with Second Severe Pneumonia Attack
Wayne Lineker Hospitalised with Second Pneumonia Attack

Nightclub owner and brother of Gary Lineker, Wayne Lineker, has been rushed back to hospital by ambulance after suffering a second severe bout of pneumonia, just days after being discharged.

A Frightening Relapse

The 62-year-old shared the alarming health update on social media, revealing he was only home for four days before the severe second attack struck. While being cared for at home by his son, Sean, his condition deteriorated rapidly, necessitating an emergency ambulance call. He expressed profound gratitude that his son was present to help.

This relapse follows a traumatic hospital stay earlier this month, which Lineker described as a "truly near-death experience." He had previously undergone an operation to drain fluid from his lungs and was left so weak he required a Zimmer frame to move short distances.

Doctors Probe Immune System Link

Medical teams are now investigating why the initial course of antibiotics failed to fully resolve the infection. Lineker disclosed that his immune system has been struggling since he stopped drinking alcohol and became sober almost six months ago. He believes this drastic lifestyle change may be a significant factor, as he experienced multiple infections during rehabilitation.

"The good news is that it appears to have nothing to do with my heart and is more likely linked to my immune system," Lineker stated. He has undergone countless scans and blood tests, with results pointing away from cardiac issues.

If the immune system link is confirmed, his treatment plan will involve a strong course of antibiotics and steroids administered via a drip.

Christmas in Hospital

The businessman has resigned himself to spending the festive period under medical care. "It’s now looking like I’ll be spending Christmas in hospital but I’ve come to accept it, and I’ll stay here until I’m completely well enough to go home," he said, maintaining a positive outlook.

He took a moment to thank NHS staff profusely, pledging to do "something special" for hospital workers across the UK next season to show his gratitude for saving his life.

Fans and famous friends have flooded his social media with messages of support, wishing him a swift and full recovery. The health scare began when Lineker caught an infection while in Dubai, leading to an urgent flight home and immediate hospitalisation with chronic pneumonia.
