Trainee Medic Guilty of Sexually Assaulting Two Patients in NHS Hospital
Trainee medic guilty of NHS hospital sex assaults

A 27-year-old trainee medic has been told to expect a substantial prison term after a jury found him guilty of sexually assaulting two female patients at an NHS hospital in Wales.

Ieuan Crump, from Caerphilly, was convicted on nine counts of sexual assault, which included three allegations of sexual assault by penetration. The offences took place while he was performing bladder scans at The Grange Hospital in Cwmbran.

Details of the Assaults Emerge in Court

Cardiff Crown Court heard disturbing details of the attacks. One victim described how Crump assaulted her with his finger while a female colleague was present in the room, attempting to insert a catheter.

The court was told that Crump later returned to the room alone, claiming he needed to check for swelling, before repeating the sexual assault.

A second victim gave evidence that the trainee health worker touched her genitals and asked if they were painful. During this incident, he also opened her legs without medical justification.

Sentencing and Legal Proceedings

Despite his defence barrister, Marian Lewis, describing him as a man of 'impeccable character', Crump was found guilty on all charges after denying them.

Judge Vanessa Frances addressed Crump directly, stating: 'Inevitably, I am going to be giving you a prison sentence of some length.'

Crump has been granted bail until his sentencing on December 18. He has also been ordered to sign the sex offenders' register on an interim basis until that date.

This was the second time Crump had faced these charges. A previous trial last year collapsed after two weeks, leading to the recent retrial and subsequent conviction.
