Eamonn Holmes Hospitalised After Suffering Stroke
GB News host Eamonn Holmes is currently recovering in hospital after suffering a stroke, the broadcaster has confirmed. The 66-year-old presenter's latest health crisis comes amid a difficult and complex medical history that has spanned several years.
Chronic Health Issues and Surgical Interventions
Holmes has faced numerous health challenges over the past decade. After decades of reluctance, he underwent surgery for both hips in 2016 to address chronic hip, leg, and back pain. He later described the procedure as "life-changing" and expressed regret for not having it done sooner.
Subsequently, he was diagnosed with a dislocated pelvis, which led to three slipped discs. He underwent further surgery to repair the damage, but during his recovery, he fell down the stairs at his home and fractured his shoulder, requiring additional medical attention.
Recent Health Struggles and Mobility Challenges
In May 2022, Holmes experienced severe spinal issues that resulted in bladder and bowel problems, leading to a nine-day hospital stay. He underwent another surgery which alleviated general pain but left him with an issue in his left leg that could collapse unexpectedly.
Later that year, in November 2022, he suffered another fall at his Surrey home, fracturing his shoulder again. This required another operation and extended his time away from television broadcasting.
Holmes has also battled a painful viral infection, which he attributed to stress from a tax dispute with HMRC. The infection caused a severe facial rash and had the potential to affect his eyesight.
Ongoing Treatment and Disability Management
The presenter continues to explore various treatments in his effort to regain mobility, including spinal injections and considering stem cell replacement therapy. He has been open about needing daily care but insists that once seated in his wheelchair, he remains capable of "doing everything."
During an appearance on the Session 7 podcast, Holmes revealed the extent of his struggles, stating: "I'm sick. I'm in a wheelchair. That's been horrendous to deal with for two years. Certainly I don't think TV wants to know you when, I mean there's nothing you and I are talking and no one can there's anything wrong but I can't get up."
He has also acknowledged that the wider world often struggles to "deal with" people with disabilities, particularly regarding appropriate accommodations and understanding.
Current Hospitalisation and Recovery
Holmes is now recovering in hospital following the confirmed stroke. His health journey has been marked by resilience and determination as he navigates multiple medical challenges while maintaining his broadcasting career when possible.
The presenter's complex health history underscores the serious nature of his current condition and the challenges he faces in his recovery process.
