The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) has confirmed the full list of 45 cancer conditions that qualify for Personal Independence Payment (PIP) awards of up to £748 per month. As of April 2026, there were 131,386 claims for the various cancer conditions.
PIP is a disability benefit intended to help with everyday tasks and extra living costs if someone has a long-term physical or mental health condition or disability. The benefit, paid out by the DWP, helps with some of the extra costs caused by long-term disability, ill-health or when people are approaching the end of their life due to a progressive disease.
PIP payment rates and eligibility
PIP is not a single flat rate but is instead divided into two parts based on how a claimant’s condition affects their independence. The daily living component covers the extra costs of managing everyday tasks, with a standard rate of £76.55 per week and an enhanced rate of £114.80. The mobility component addresses the challenges of getting around, with a base rate of £30.20 and an increased level of £80.10.
By qualifying for the enhanced daily living rate and a portion of the mobility support, eligible claimants can see their weekly total reach the £187 mark, totalling £748 per month. Eligibility for PIP is not determined by National Insurance contributions and it is not means-tested, meaning that even if you are employed, have savings, or are receiving other benefits, you can still qualify for the payments.

The latest official figures earlier this year showed the number of people in England and Wales claiming the main disability benefit passed four million for the first time, roughly doubling since 2019. There are a total of 1,232,164 claims for conditions that could make you eligible for the regular support payment, including 131,386 claims for the various cancer conditions.
