Celtic are holding "round-the-clock" negotiations with Torino as they look to get a deal for Gvidas Gineitis over the line.
The 23-year-old is a long-term target for the Scottish champions as they look to add depth to their midfield following Arne Engels' departure, after he sealed a £22million move to West Ham earlier this summer.
Long-standing interest
The playmaker was considered by the Hoops when Nottingham Forest had a £25million bid turfed out back in January, and interest in the Lithuania international resurfaced earlier this summer. Gineitis' agent has revealed he has held talks about a potential move to Glasgow's East End.
The player's representative claimed his client is "ready" to join Celtic, but noted that the Hoops are yet to table an official offer for the Serie A club to consider.
Ongoing negotiations
While the Glasgow giants are inching towards a move for PSV's Joel van den Berg, with the likes of Reo Hatate facing an uncertain future, the club are eyeing Gineitis to bolster their ranks.
Reports in Italy earlier this week suggested that a bid for the midfielder had been knocked back by Torino, but talks appear to be ongoing.
Sky Italia report that "negotiations are proceeding at an all-time high" and the two clubs are in "constant contact" over the deal. It is noted the Hoops are "very keen" as they seek an agreement before Thursday's deadline.
Deadline complications
While Celtic can sign players until Thursday, Torino will see their window close at 7pm on September 1 - meaning the Italians would be unable to sign a replacement for Gineitis if the earlier deadline passes.
Celtic are also keen to add right and left-backs before the close of the window, while goalkeeper Sam Johnstone looks to be inching closer to a switch from Wolves.
