Davina McCall Announces All-Clear from Breast Cancer After Surgery and Treatment
Davina McCall Cleared of Breast Cancer After Surgery

In an emotional and candid health update, television presenter Davina McCall has revealed she has received the all-clear from breast cancer, six months after undergoing surgery and treatment. The 58-year-old shared the positive news during her podcast, Making The Cut, which she co-hosts with her husband, hairdresser Michael Douglas, 49.

Emotional Check-Up Day Turns Joyful

McCall described her recent hospital appointment in London as "quite a serious day, quite heavy" before receiving the clear results. "It was all clear, just letting everyone know. Good news, good news," she announced to listeners. The day was unexpectedly brightened when she used a novelty credit card wand she had purchased after seeing it on social media to pay her bill.

"I tapped my wand and literally people were beside themselves," McCall explained. "I thought, this heavy day has become very joyful and funny. And I've not only put a smile on other people's faces, but I've put a smile on mine." She elaborated that the wand resembles something a fairy godmother might use, with a star-shaped top that unscrews to insert a debit or credit card.

Cancer Discovery and Treatment Timeline

The Long Lost Family host first discovered a lump in her breast while working on ITV's The Masked Singer last October, prompted by signs posted by Lorraine Kelly in the ITV studios urging women to check their breasts. She underwent a lumpectomy in October 2024, followed by five days of preventative radiotherapy in January 2025, which she described as an "insurance policy" to prevent recurrence.

Fortunately, the cancer was caught "very very early" with clear margins after surgery, and her lymph nodes were also clear. McCall revealed her diagnosis publicly last November, expressing initial anger but finding herself in a "much more positive place" following treatment.

Back-to-Back Health Challenges

This breast cancer diagnosis came just one year after McCall underwent surgery in November 2024 to remove a benign brain tumour—a rare colloid cyst described as "three in a million." The 14mm cyst required a six-hour craniotomy operation, and McCall has spoken openly about experiencing memory issues and emotional breakdowns during her recovery.

Reflecting on the timing, she said recently: "In October, interestingly two years almost to the month where I found out I had a brain tumour, I got breast cancer, and it felt like being punched in the face by the universe."

Support System and Lifestyle Changes

McCall credited her husband Michael with helping her navigate the emotional turmoil of her health battles. "I was trying to be positive," she recalled. "And he said, 'But if you were angry, it's okay. You can be angry.' Then I got really angry, and I got the cushions out and the pillow [punching them] and that was quite therapeutic."

The couple, who first met in the early 2000s when Michael worked as her hairstylist on Big Brother, began dating in 2018. They announced their engagement in September 2025 after a beach proposal in Ibiza, marrying last December in an intimate ceremony near their Kent home with about ten close friends and family members.

Following these consecutive health scares, McCall has made significant lifestyle adjustments, including switching to a four-day work week to better manage stress and prioritize self-care. She has also urged others to be vigilant about their health, stating: "So just check, if you've got something, go get it looked at. It takes seconds."

Understanding Breast Cancer

Breast cancer remains one of the most common cancers worldwide, affecting over two million women annually. In the UK alone, there are more than 55,000 new cases each year, with the disease claiming approximately 11,500 lives. Early detection through regular checks significantly improves treatment outcomes.

Symptoms to monitor include:

  • Lumps or swellings in the breast or armpit
  • Dimpling or changes in skin texture
  • Discharge from the nipple
  • Rash or crusting around the nipple area

McCall's experience highlights the importance of routine examinations and prompt medical attention when abnormalities are detected. She expressed gratitude to the Royal Marsden Hospital for her care and gave "an extra special thanks to Michael" for his unwavering support throughout her treatment journey.
