Amy Dowden's Emotional Vow After Mastectomy: 'Dreaming of Dancing Again'
Amy Dowden's emotional vow after second mastectomy

Strictly Come Dancing professional Amy Dowden has made a heartfelt and emotional pledge to her followers as she recovers from her second mastectomy operation.

An Emotional Instagram Post

The Welsh dancer, 34, took to Instagram this week to share an archive clip of herself performing on tour with fellow BBC professional Carlos Gu. Accompanying the footage, she penned a powerful message about her future.

"Dreaming of dancing again!" she wrote. "Once I'm recovered, going to make the most of every second, step, beat."

She went on to explain the profound role dance has played in her life, stating it has driven her through tough times and given her the best moments, including meeting her husband and friends who are like family.

A Candid Cancer Journey

Amy's post follows her appearance in last weekend's pre-recorded Remembrance group dance on Strictly, which prompted an outpouring of support from viewers.

The dancer was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 2023, after discovering a lump whilst showering following her wedding day. She has been remarkably open about her experience, keeping fans updated via Instagram and starring in a moving BBC documentary.

Her treatment meant she was unable to compete in the 2023 series of Strictly. She made a triumphant return in 2024, partnered with JB Gill, but was forced to withdraw due to a foot injury.

Looking to the Future

This year, Amy returned to the ballroom with partner Thomas Skinner, though they were the first couple to be eliminated from the competition. Despite the early departure, she expressed gratitude to Thomas for making her feel 'strong again' after her hiatus.

At the beginning of the month, Amy confirmed she was undergoing another mastectomy, clarifying that it was not due to a new cancer diagnosis.

She has since provided a positive recovery update for her followers, saying, "I am recovering really, really well. I'm really excited because I'm about to get my drain taken out." She described the relief this will bring, noting the discomfort of the compression bras and drains, and thanked everyone for their supportive messages.
