6-Year-Old Saves Mum's Life After YouTube First Aid Lesson

In an astonishing display of courage and presence of mind far beyond her years, six-year-old Lucy-Mae became a real-life hero when she saved her mother's life during a terrifying medical emergency.

The incredible incident unfolded at the family home when Lucy-Mae's mother, 34-year-old Chloe, suffered a severe diabetic hypo and lost consciousness. While many children would have frozen in panic, Lucy-Mae remembered crucial first aid advice she had seen on YouTube.

The Calm in the Crisis

With remarkable composure, the young girl immediately dialled 999 and connected with emergency call handler Georgia Burnett from the East of England Ambulance Service. Lucy-Mae clearly explained the situation: "My mummy's poorly. She's not awake."

Guided by Georgia's calm instructions, Lucy-Mae performed the vital steps needed to help her mother. She carefully checked her mum's breathing, placed her in the recovery position, and even administered her diabetic medication.

YouTube Lessons Turn Lifesaving

What makes this story even more remarkable is where Lucy-Mae learned these crucial skills. She recalled first aid techniques from watching videos on YouTube, transforming online viewing into real-world lifesaving knowledge.

Her mother Chloe, who has type 1 diabetes, expressed her overwhelming pride: "I am just so proud of her. She's my absolute hero. I don't remember much from the incident, but I know I wouldn't be here without her."

Emergency Services Praise Young Hero

Call handler Georgia Burnett, who has handled thousands of emergency calls, was deeply impressed by Lucy-Mae's actions. "She was so calm and brave throughout the call," Georgia remarked. "For someone so young to handle such a scary situation with that level of competence is extraordinary."

The ambulance service has since arranged for Lucy-Mae to visit their control room and meet the team, celebrating her as one of their youngest-ever lifesavers.

When asked about her incredible actions, Lucy-Mae simply stated: "I wasn't scared, I just did it." Her story stands as a powerful testament to childhood courage and the importance of basic first aid knowledge.
