A mother from the UK has issued a desperate warning to other parents after her three-year-old daughter suffered a terrifying allergic reaction to a popular high street slushie, causing her eyes to swell completely shut.
Chloe Atlantis described the moment of sheer panic when her daughter, Orla, began screaming in pain shortly after consuming the icy treat. What was meant to be a fun outing quickly turned into a nightmare.
The reaction was swift and severe. "Within minutes of having a few sips, her eyes were swelling up and she was screaming that they were burning," Chloe recounted. The situation rapidly deteriorated until the toddler's eyes were completely sealed shut by the swelling.
A frantic rush to the hospital followed, where medical professionals identified the likely culprit: E133 Brilliant Blue, a synthetic food colouring commonly used in blue raspberry slushies. Orla was diagnosed with a confirmed allergy to the dye.
This incident is not an isolated case. The Mirror previously reported on the story of a young boy who suffered similar life-threatening reactions to the same additive, raising serious concerns about its use in children's products.
Chloe's mission is now to raise awareness and push for clearer warnings. "I had no idea a child could have such a severe reaction to a slushy... I want other parents to be aware of the potential danger," she urged. Her story is a stark reminder of the hidden risks that can lurk in everyday snacks and the critical importance of clear food labelling.
