Marvel Studios has announced a new Ghost Rider film starring Ryan Gosling as the motorcycle-riding anti-hero, unveiling the project at San Diego Comic-Con.

The film is set for release in 2028 and will be the third about the character, following the 2007 film starring Nicolas Cage and its 2011 sequel Ghost Rider: Spirit Of Vengeance.

Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige said he was often asked when the Drive actor would join the Marvel Cinematic Universe, before introducing Gosling on stage. Gosling told the cheering crowd: “Wow, is this really happening? As you know, this is a character I’ve wanted to play for a very long time.”
Gosling had previously spoken publicly about his desire to play Ghost Rider and confirmed on the Happy Sad Confused With Josh Horowitz podcast in March that he was in discussions with Marvel.
The film will be directed by Shawn Levy, whom Gosling described as the “only” director for the project. Levy said: “As Ryan started talking about his vision for this character, we started riffing, and I finally said, ‘bro, let’s ride’, so guys, we’ll see you in 2028.” Levy directed Deadpool And Wolverine for Marvel and is currently working with Gosling on Star Wars: Starfighter.

Ghost Rider is the superhero alias of motorcycle stuntman Johnny Blaze, who becomes bound to the Spirit Of Vengeance Zarathos after making a deal with villain Mephisto to spare his surrogate father, giving him superpowers.
