A 17-year-old student sent a tragic final message to her on-off boyfriend after accidentally revealing via Snapchat that she had slept with someone else, an inquest has heard.
Charlotte Guy, from Orrell, Wigan, was found hanged from a tree near St John Rigby College on 24 September last year. She had been studying healthcare at the college and also worked poolside at a Total Fitness gym.
The inquest in Bolton heard that Charlotte had been dating 20-year-old Jack Hurst for two years. On the day of her death, she mistakenly sent Jack a Snapchat message that referenced her sleeping with someone else. After realising her error, she apologised and sent him a message saying: 'Goodbye. Please forgive me'. She then sent her final message: 'I love you, knowing that you hate me is enough'.
Jack, who is studying at Newcastle University, became concerned and called police after reading the messages. He used Charlotte's Snapchat account to pinpoint her location, but she was found hanged shortly after.
Toxicology reports showed that Charlotte had taken cocaine while under the influence of alcohol. In a statement, Jack said Charlotte had previously expressed feelings that 'the world wasn't meant for her' and had been upset about a previous relationship of his. He added that she had seemed happy after starting a new course at college.
The inquest continues.
